He’s from the same state that Common, Lupe, and Kanye represent. He has a new album BACKYARD HEROES coming out in March and the next video will be released in February for the single E NORTH AVE. This Illinois Native calls himself Kidd Russell and had a unique break into the music industry. During months of recuperation, after breaking the smallest bone in the human body Kidd Russell starting writing his own music. He has opened shows for musical moguls such as The Roots, Common, The Flobots and many others. His sound has been featured on both MTV2 and MTV Jams. To classify Kidd into one genre would be quiet tough, because he can take a rhyme and give it a reggae feel as he did with “Paradise” or take a song and flip it to rock, which he did with “Rush.” Simply put, Kidd Russell makes good music! Kidd Russell: I used to be a college football player. I broke the smallest bone in the body, the navicular bone in my wrist, it took 9 months to heal and while recovering I started my music career.

KrissyJ: Favorite color?
Kidd Russell: Green

KrissyJ: Favorite restaurant?
Kidd Russell: Ruth Cris, Outback, Tony Subs in my hometown!

KrissyJ: Favorite place to shop?
Kidd Russell: Urban Outfitters and TJ Maxx (…oh ya so Midwest lol)

KrissyJ:So tell us…why music?
Kidd Russell: I love the feeling of writing a great song and seeing it become a part of people, history and soul.

KrissyJ: How long have you been in this industry?
Kidd Russell: 7 years…yeeessshhhh!

KrissyJ: In your opinion what is your best accomplishment thus far?
Kidd Russell: Opening for the legendary band THE ROOTs twice and getting on MTV. Those seemed like impossible feets before I started music and then years later I accomplished them and I’m independent!! lol AMAZING. Dreams come true!

KrissyJ: Who inspires you?
Kidd Russell: Ross Golan of Glacier Hiking as a song writer, Matt Jenkins my producer and Common inspires me as a live performer!

KrissyJ: Is there a celebrity you would love to work with?
Kidd Russell: Uh in bed I’d like to work with Zoe Salanda ( lol) In music I’d love to work with Common, Lauren Hill, Cisco Adler, the Flobots, Kanye West, Kid Cudi and Mike Posner to name a few.

KrissyJ: Where do you see yourself in the next year?
Kidd Russell: On my first major tour, selling 10,000 albums, and signing my first major indie and publishing deals.

KrissyJ: Where can we see you live?
