I can’t remember the last time I dressed up for Halloween. In my household I wasn’t allowed to dress up or participate in trick or treating. If my local church had a “Fall Festival” I’d attend…but that was as far as it went for me. I never felt left out nor did participating matter because with older fashionable sisters I played dress up every day.
This year, I decided to venture out and see what this Halloween stuff is all about. I didn’t purchase a costume. Instead I dug through my closet and put together an ensemble similar to what one of my favorite musicians Janelle Monae would wear.
It was fairly easy to put the look together being that it only is comprised of black and white. After googling Monae’s style I paired a velvet black floral blazer, a white tuxedo button down, black slacks, and loafers. To top off the outfit I added my over-sized crystal gem bow tie. As for the hair, I went to Youtube to find out how to do my Janelle Monae inspired updo.
Needless to say I had a fun night with my girls. Check out the pictures:
Did I pull of the look?
What costume did you wear this year?

I loved the article and choice of Monae. She is pretty beast and I have a new found respect for her after watching Black Girls Rock. She truly is inspirational and my love you definetly pulled off the look!
